Hey all,

Have to admit I freaked out a bit when I got the reunion invite. I just went to my 25th college reunion last October and I'm still not over that!

The play list looks great. As far as music requests - how about some Heart and Jimmy Buffet?

Anyone remember going to Swenson's in Ladue?

08/31/08 11:09 AM #25

Dorothy Shaw (Jones)

Do you have any contacts for the class of 77?

I wonder how many calories we consumed at Swenson's? That was some rich ice cream and it was nice to have the Ladue girls serving US. That and the cookie in the sundaes were the best things about that. : )

Does anyone remember hanging out at Star Chamber? And bowling and playing real pinball up at Tropicana? How about lunch on Saturdays at Famous Barr. Onion Soup and a Coke for $1.25.

Dorothy Shaw (Jones)

Oh I remember Famous Barr....I loved their french onion soup. I still have a pair of beady earrings I got there. And they are back in fashion now.

If I knew how to do the pictures I would...I will try to get my kids to help me They are home this weekend.

I remember all those places - Famous Barr, Swensons, Tropicana, and Star Chamber too! But how about Michael's and the Time Machine?! Anyone want to admit to disco fever?

09/06/08 06:01 PM #31

Debbie Miller (Ross)

All of these memories prove what I have been telling my kids for years--WE INVENTED THE STUFF YOU DO NOW! The Time Machine, beady earrings, Candies (shoes). One funny thing was about 7 years ago I walked through the Juniors dept at Famous and saw you could buy jeans with pen writing already on them! And the price. My son would cut the side seams of his khakis down by the shoes and it would drive my husband nuts. I reminded him what we used to do to our clothes; he stopped complaining after that flashback.

The Tropicana is still there thats about it I think....I think about Michaels and the Time Machine every time we go by that building.

Tropicana is still there. I was thinking of Crossroads Bowl, which is now the land an enormous Linens and Things sits on! Michael's and the Time Machine is giving me such flashbacks... "Burn, baby, burn, DISCO INFERNO!" Will there be mirror balls at any of our events?

I just have one question; What in the HECK am I doing up at 1:35 in the morning, when I have to go in to work tomorrow?? I'll tell you what! I'm feeding my new addiction! The CHS reunion web site! Wish I'd realized that this was here two months ago - - - well, maybe not! In any case, I am actually going to go to bed now. Can't wait to see everyone in TWO WEEKS!!!

Um - - - I swear it's NOT 2:39 am!! The time posted seems to be an hour later than it really is. Okay, it's too late for me to figure this stuff out. I'm outa here!

Louis...you mentioned the Varsity Theatre...the home of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! My high school boyfriend (Steven Piccione...went to CBC) 's dad owned The Varsity, and we went there A LOT! We thought we were pretty cool because, since Steven's dad owned it, we could bypass the big long lines (with our friends in tow) and go right in...FOR FREE. I'm fairly mortified to recall now how many times I watched that awful thing!

More hangouts:
the playground at Oak Knoll
sledding at Art Hill and Concordia
Blueberry Hill in U City
the Esquire and Hi-Pointe
Posh

Louis, what was the Big "O"?

See you all soon...

Michael,
That's the Olympia Drive-In that featured bad 70's porn. Like I said...never went there.

How about Flaming Pit . . . used to go there with my parents. It was so dark in there, and they had a little treasure chest in the back where you could choose a toy!

I get so nostalgic for the old places, architecture. Was anyone else sad when they tore down the Famous-Barr in Clayton? That was a cool building.

Hi All!

After the reunion-ing on Friday and Saturday nights, let's continue the party at Mazara in Clayton (on Forsyth, between Meramec and Central) for some beverages! The restaurant is owned by my sister Mindy (CHS '68) and her husband. Their website is www.mazarastl.com if you want to take a look.

See you there!

Does anyone remember Bruce Kohn and what year he was ...77? I see there is a homecoming parade next sat I think, is that true?

Cat - My memory of the Flaming Pit was being there as a young girl with my parents, and another young girl threw up right next to our table. It gave a whole new meaning to the words "flaming pit" and I refused to ever go back there again.

Re: the Famous Barr Building in Clayton.

Cat, they didn't tear it down. Wash U bought it and it's now their West Campus. My first position at Wash U nine years ago was in that building. In fact, I think my office was in the "Way In" department! Remember that? The restaurant on the third floor is a Cafe. I used to tell people that I could still smell the French Onion Soup!

In fact, the first floor at Jackson and Hanley is now the home of Ivey-Selkirk auctioneers! Keepin' it in the CHS family!
